Painted rocks are the new thing, really

I’m not kidding. Painted rocks are all the rage right now with 3- and 4-year-olds. And the best part? It’s such an easy activity to put together.photo-2

Supplies: Rocks (preferably flat ones), washable paint, paintbrushes, and plenty of paper towels.

Steps:

1. Have your children pick some rocks up at the beach or just some from your backyard. This activity could go on for hours, so grab as many as you want. (I capped them at 10 each, but I’m lenient.)

2. Set up a placemat for each child with paper to protect tables and counters, paper towels, water, and paints (preferably) in the middle for sharing.

3. Let them paint. Shapes for the older children and maybe just blobs of color for the little guys.

Side note: A couple hours later when the paint dries, they’ll be excited to hear that they have a whole other side to paint.
