Quick Review – Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Witches, trolls, and goblins and that’s in the first ten minutes! Welcome to the magical world of Hansel and Gretel.  Two orphans who grow into witch-killing adults.  Based on the fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel use their skills surviving a child-eating witch to become adept at witch slaying.  As they grow up,  they learn to navigate the world on their own.

The main story begins when Hansel and Gretel are summoned to a town to investigate the kidnapping of young children. People feel that the kidnappings are the work of witches.  The mayor of the town has to deal with angry townspeople and an out-for-blood sheriff.  As they begin to investigate the disappearances, they also save a young woman accused of witchcraft. This places the two at odds with the power-hungry sheriff.

As it turns out, witches are behind an evil plan to use children to help them survive burnings – a sure way to kill a witch. Once the plan has been discovered, Hansel & Gretel are in a race against time to stop the witches. As they battle witches and the devious sheriff, the two learn more about their tragic past.

If you like action-adventure with a mix of murder and mayhem, then Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is the movie for you. If not, don’t waste your money and wait for it to debut on cable.
